Mohanlal and Priyadarshan Duo – What a Team!

I cannot count the number of times I have watched these movies – the movies directed by Priyadarshan where Mohanlal is the hero. I watch these movies with the same vigor and enthusiasm as if I am watching it for the first time. Here is a collection of ten movies I like to watch again and again. I am sure if you watch Malayalam movies you may have watched all these movies multiple times like me.
Mazha Peyunnu Madalam Kottunnu
Boeing Boeing

Aram+Aram = Kinnaram
Thenmavin Kombathu
Pochakoru Mukuthi
Vellanakalude Nadu
Here is what Priyadarshan has to say about his buddy Mohanlal
With Priyadarshan getting busier in Bollywood, we don’t get to see the duo in action for a long time now. Waiting eagerly to see the next Mohanlal-Priyadarshan movie - Arabiyum Ottakavum P Madhavan Nairum to see that midas touch again.

There will not be any Malayalee who hasn't seen these movies a number of times. These are things which make us feel that we are lucky to born in that part of the world and in those times.

Honestly, I don't have much respect for Priyadarshan now. I used to admire his skills but now having seen almost all the original movies of his 'classics' I understand he has been nothing more than a clever crook. Even his frames are carbon-copy of many famous Hollywood movies. Priyadarshan has very few original creativity.

Now that liberalisation is in and Satellite TV has infiltrated into every households Priyan can no more steal from Hollywood. So what he does? He turns himself into a translator! Clever!

Mohanlal has been the icing of most of these movies. His acting has no comparison!

To copy from Hollywood to Indian context also needs skill, right? If he has not copied we could have missed so many good movies which we still cherish, right?

^^ Brijesh bhai, yes I agree he has made a few unforgettable movies like Kilukkam, Chitram, Mukundatta etc but I was commenting on his plagiarism skills. He has skills, all right, but it doesn't take much to steal another man's work without even accrediting them.

I remember once Anu Malik saying the same thing when confronted about stealing tunes from foreign records. He said "I've remodelled them so that Indian audience could enjoy them as well. And you must thank me for bringing such unheard music to our industry for our movie fans to enjoy. I'm not looking for any awards for this...Its just for the audience to enjoy."

If we buy that argument its fine. Anu Malik has many lovely original scores but will be remembered as a a copy-cat. Same with Priyan.

Even in Kalapani, which was a rare, very noteworthy original, so many frames and scenes are ripped straight off Hollywood (blood spill when Amrish Puri smashes the man's eye, the ship coming into Andaman and many more).

One thing I appreciate about him is the enhancing of Lalettan's career through some magnificent roles which Keralites can never forget.

Mohanlal has a good share in Priyan becoming popular, through his acting in those movies..

anyways, they are the best of the gang and friends in movie industry, with mutual respect for each others.. everyone in that group..
