DNA Owes an Apology to Shashi Tharoor

Now we live in the age of live news, live news analysis so on and so forth. Most of the time news presented by the news channel and newspaper are far from truth. They will quote “unidentified source” or “close aid” or something like that to give authenticity to the news. Here is a perfect example of such news.
Daily News & Analysis (DNA) was one the first paper that broke the news about the possible engagement of former Union Minister and MP from Trivandrum Dr Shashi Tharoor with Sunanda Puskar. DNA wrote on May 18th (emphasis added)
A source from the resort said, “The engagement date is fixed. While some of the guests will be checking in early, considering it is the weekend, others are expected on the day of the do. However, the entire hotel has been blocked for Saturday and Sunday (June 26 and 27), for it is going to be a big affair. There will be no access into the hotel for any person who is not on the guest list. We are yet to receive the guest list and it will be handed over to us only by June 23 or 24.
Intelligence sources, however, say that at least a dozen former cabinet colleagues are expected to attend the engagement. Tharoor and Pushkar are expected to be in town a day or two prior to the big day.
Shashi is reportedly getting engaged to entrepreneur Sunanda Pushkar at al uxury resort on the outskirts of Bangalore on June 27 this year. However, the hotel has denied about such an event taking place.
The source adds, “Shashi and Sunanda might change the venue as the media is expected to be present there since the news has leaked out. A venue abroad was also being considered but that has been scrapped because most of the couple’s friends would not be able to make it. Sunanda wants to let the public know about the engagement while Shashi wants to keep it outside the media glare. The photographs, however, will be given out to the media in a manner that both are comfortable with. The date of the engagement has not changed because informal invites have already been sent out to a lot of people.
June 27th has gone and there is no news about their engagement. If the news report of DNA was true Dr Tharoor and Sunanda should have got engaged by June 27th. Have you heard of news about their engagement? Doesn’t DNA owe an apology to Dr Shashi Tharoor for publishing false news?

The media can publish false news to attack MPs, Ministers etc. Another game IPL is another one against Dr. Tharoor. Now media are silent on Dr. Tharoor (who was a capable Minister of External Affairs).

Democrasy is a Govt of ppl , for the ppl and by the ppl. Judiciary and press is the two main pillars of it.
Role of press is to inform the ppl of the things around them and create public governance. Media should supply information in true and unbiased form and let the public choose, whatever the best of their interest.
Unfortunately current Media is forgetting the role of press in democracy. They is always forgetting their responsibilities and only focusing on sensational news which does not have any base as well as any truth.
I wonder Irresponsible, stupid, or calculating media is a cancer in our society.
I support you as they have to at least show the courtesy to apologies to Mr.Tharoor in this case.

Anon @ 10.27
That is not the point here. DNA wrote that they are going to have an engagement inviting so many VIP's on 27th of June. That has not taken place. The entire report is based not on facts and only on assumptions. Lot of articles comes out these days like this and I was pointing to one such article.

Why can’t you reveal the identity and write comments? “Indian NRI middle class is out of touch with India” About whom are you talking about?

“A third rate celebrity politician exported from America” – Please rate the politicians born here first- What rate will you give to them?

You may be of the view that only those who can get 70 crores stakes in IPL team has the right to be anonymous!!!?
Which politician you want me to rate??Your lines show your contempt to anyone who is Indian and is a political leader. If it is about politicians like V.S Antony Sudheeran it's ridiculous to compare with a corrupt Tharoor. If it is about leaders like Karunakaran, Pinarayi aleast they have grown from the grassroots somewhere close to common man's heart and are proponents of a progressive philosophy(not armchair advisors), despite all the allegations of corruption.
And here is one politician thrust upon Kerala by a high command and A SECTION OF well-off NRI class(my assumption from the blog correct me if am wrong) still worried because DNA put his marriage date one month advanced.Haven't seen this sense of JUSTICE when our MP Mr Tharoor's wife gobbled up 70 crores.

Tom,

Please enlighten me about the corruption charge in IPL. Did Dr Tharoor used 70 crores of public money? Did he misuse his office? He formed a team to bid for an IPL team for Kerala. If conducted well this can become a real boom to tourism industry and other sectors in Kerala. He had no prior knowledge of the bid amount and that 70 crores would have come to Sunandha only if the franchise made good profit. What is wrong in that? She is getting paid for the work she is doing? I don’t see anything wrong in that. I prefer Dr Tharoor to any other politician who talk principles and don’t do anything for the state. If he decides to contest again from Trivandrum I will be there to cast my vote for him and I am sure there will be lots of people like me. You can see “one politician thrust upon Kerala” getting reelected again.:)

So if you want to see the well off NRI please come to Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Vellore. I am very much here in India…

Brijesh,

Did he use public money?
IPL is not printing money. The money ultimately comes from public.
Did Tharoor use it?
Bad luck for Tharoor.
Did he misuse his office?
An emphatic yes.If this is not misuse of office then what is!!!If such things are to be proved in a court of law all the Indian politicians are saints except perhaps a Madhu Koda for the time being.
He had no prior knowledge?
Your version.Difficult for most of the people to believe. If this is the line of
argument hail Saint Pinarayi in Lavalin,Karunakaran in Palmolin,Saint Kalmadi in CWG.

She is getting paid for the work she is doing? I don’t see anything wrong in that

Again this is a sort of argument even the Congress high command and Dr Manmohan Singh could not believe or defend.
The very fact that he was literally kicked out from ministry for impropriety shows that these kind of argument holds no water.

Ofcourse you should vote for Tharoor :)That is your right..Afterall this is a country where Pappu Yadavs and Lalu Prasads are repeatedly elected. But don't try to put Tharoor in a morally higher plane. And don't belittle the other political leaders who are much efficient, cleaner and sensible than Mr Tharoor but surely lesser celebrities. That is despicable.

Day by day the murky deals in IPL are coming out.If it is in this thing that a peoples representative wanted to get involved in ,then good luck.

And Tharoor is the one who talks about high principles, gives armchair advises and gobbles up 70 crores AND tries to evoke regionalism at the same time not the other ones.
Bye :)
