I am planning to have “Indian of the Year 2009” contest in my blog. I plan to have the final six nominees for that selected by the readers of this blog. If you think a particular Indian should be Indian of the Year 2009, please nominate his/her name. Here are the rules for the nominations.
- You can nominate any number of nominees
- Nominees need to be Indian
- Please have your nominees as a comment for this post in the following format.
Nominee – Why you are nominating him/her. For example MS Dhoni – for leading
- Last date for nomination is 10 pm MST on December 18th.

My nominees
Dr Manmohan Singh - for getting elected as Prime Minister for the second consecutive term
Sachin Tendulkar - for completing 20 years of international cricket
Sonia Gandhi for having revived the congress party and also maintaining composure and maturity in times of victory and failure.
My vote goes to Sonia Gandhi too!
Vote is for Sonia Ji for giving rebirth to Indian National Congress party....

Shashi Tharoor - for showing how politicians in India can b transparent (twitter)

The victory of Congress party in the 2009 Loksabha election can be undoubtedly attributed to the chief of the congress part.
Ok, here comes my nominees:
Shashi Tharoor- for ushering in a fresh lease of life to the ailing image of politicians.
Rahul Gandhi- You know for what :)
A.R.Rahman- bringing in Oscar to the country.
Sachin Tendulkar- on still being the most respected and admired Indian sportsperson, and on completing 20 glorious years in Int'l Cricket.
I will go for
A R Rahman - for opening new windows to Indian music , one of the best in the world, which has not recieved its due response and treatment so far.
Suganthi - a unknown 19 year old tamil teacher who sacrificed her life in her rescue operations to save the school children who drowned in lake in vedharanyam this november. she had all oppurtunities to come out of the lake, indeed she saved 5 plus kids. The irony is that when her daed body was recovered, it was found that her hands were tightly clinching the heads of two kids.... my salaam for her.
P Chidambaram - became home minister in a tough period when India was in the midst of riots- his approach towards maoists, arabinda rajkhowa,LTTEs were impeccable and adorable.
ISRO CREW -
I want to appreciate the ambitious team of ISRO , for their incredible achievements with chandrayaan .. my salutes to them.
